In this painting, the island is both destination and invitation. It represents the places we cannot possess, only explore. The parent and child drift together across still water, sharing not only a journey but a way of seeing. The greatest inheritance we can give is not certainty, but curiosity. Part of Sacred Ordinary , this work celebrates wonder as something learned through companionship. Poem We crossed no great ocean, only a quiet stretch of water. Yet somewhere between the shore and the trees, the world became larger, and so did we. Some journeys measure distance in wonder.

Silk Funeral Shroud

A pure silk satin shroud with striking and detailed leaf prints in hues of gold, copper and olive. Printed on an ivory background, the eucalypts and kowhai were gathered from the shores of Lake Wānaka in Te Wai Pounamu (Sth Island). The shroud comes with 3 silk satin ties hand dyed naturally in a soft olive green. Use ties to secure the shroud closed after wrapping. Both shroud and ribbons are enclosed in a matching silk and linen bag for storage. This bag is lined with woven cotton and is suitable as an urn for natural interment of ashes, or to keep as a memento. The shroud and sewing threads are 100% silk and suitable for both natural burial and water cremation.

Some places just hold your memories for you. Whangarei Harbour is one of those for me - I've sailed these waters for years, and this one came out of a trip with my Dad not long ago to watch the Tuesday night races. Boats out on the water, the light going soft over the hills, Dad beside me. I wanted to keep all of it. So this painting is really a little love letter to those evenings - the fun, the calm, the easy happiness of being out there together. Harakeke Negative is an unframed original linocut print, printed in a limited edition of 10. Harakeke flower stalks feel like such an iconic part of Northland’s landscape. For some reason they remind me of a menorah, and I imagine them being carried by the priest of an animist religion. Printed using oil-based ink and individually burnished by hand on acid-free Japanese washi paper (68gsm). Each print is signed and numbered. Print measures 15 x 23 cm and is printed on an A4 sheet (21 x 29.7cm) Owing to the manual nature of the printmaking process, there will be minor variations between prints. This print ships in a clear polypropylene resealable bag and backed by thick acid-free card.
